Scope of Work:

Consultation and Site Review

Completed an on-site assessment to review elevation changes, access points, and overall site conditions. Worked closely with the homeowner to understand how the patio would be used — from everyday lounging to entertaining — while ensuring the design aligned with the home’s architectural style. Reviewed drainage requirements and long-term maintenance expectations before finalizing the scope.

Design and Planning

Developed a patio layout that maximized usable space while maintaining clean sightlines and strong visual balance. Planned the integration of the retaining wall to manage grade changes and provide a defined edge to the patio area. Material selection focused on durability, consistent colour tone, and structural performance suitable for freeze–thaw cycles.

Installation and Construction

Prepared the site with proper base construction and compaction to support both the patio surface and retaining wall. Installed the raised paver patio and engineered retaining wall system, ensuring precise alignment, consistent elevations, and long-term stability. All hardscape elements were built to support heavy use while maintaining a clean, finished appearance.

Finishing Details

Completed surrounding areas with decorative gravel, clean transitions, and minimal planting to keep the space visually open and easy to maintain. The final layout provides a functional outdoor extension of the home while maintaining a polished, uncluttered look.

Grade and Elevation Management

The site required careful handling of elevation changes to create a level, usable patio space while maintaining proper drainage away from the home. The retaining wall system had to be engineered and installed with precision to ensure long-term stability.

Drainage and Base Preparation

Proper drainage was critical to prevent water buildup and movement during seasonal freeze–thaw cycles common in the Okanagan. Extensive base preparation and compaction were required to support the patio surface and retaining wall over time.

Integration with Existing Architecture

The patio needed to align visually with the home’s modern exterior without overpowering it. Material selection, colour consistency, and clean lines were essential to ensure the hardscape felt like a natural extension of the home rather than an afterthought.

Access and Construction Logistics

Limited access around the home required careful coordination of material delivery and equipment movement to avoid damage to surrounding areas during construction.

All materials and construction methods had to account for year-round exposure, heavy use, and seasonal temperature changes, ensuring the finished patio would perform reliably with minimal maintenance.

These challenges were addressed through detailed planning, experienced execution, and disciplined site management, resulting in a durable, clean, and functional outdoor living space.
